Serving you and keeping your data private and secure is our #1 priority.

Unlike other social networks that bet on user addiction and sell engagement data to advertisers, Village relies solely on member subscriptions to sustain its business. Hence, we are here to serve you as our #1 priority, and as a by-product, safeguard the data you hold dear, and constantly thrive to deliver you the value you need.

Our promises to you

  1. We will never share your sensitive data with 3rd parties or serve you ads.

  2. You control your data — You can ask us anytime to delete your account and all your personal data, and we will process the request within 48hrs.

How and why we process sensitive data

👥 Contacts Data

Sources: Google, Outlook, LinkedIn (via Chrome Extension)

  • Why we need it

We need this to import all your contacts, enrich these profiles with their public work and education history, and auto-merge duplicates to build up a clean and searchable list of all your professional connections.

  • How we keep your sensitive data private

    1. Your private contacts are hidden. E.g. if you have a contact “Wifey”, “Baby”, “Tinder date”, etc — those will not show up at all to your network until our engine resolves those identities reliably to a public identity. When that happens, only public data that they made available about them such as their public name, position, work history, and education history is then visible to your network.

    2. Nobody can browse your contacts. Your connections on Village can only discover that you’re a common connection when they perform a search query.

    3. Nobody except you can see your contact’s phone numbers and emails. Your network can only know that you’re connected to someone

🗓️ Calendar Data

Sources: Google, Outlook

  • Why we need it

We need this to calculate relationship strengths so you can browse all the professional you actually know, and help you find the shortest intro path to people you’re interested to meet.

  • How we keep your sensitive data private

    1. Your events are processed by machines not people. Our AI looks into a multitude of factors, such as the recency and the quality of the interactions between two people to deduce a relationship strength. Due to the sensitivity of this data, no human can view your data, instead we rely on algorithms and machine learning to process it in aggregate and keep learning based on your feedback.

    2. We do not process events where you’re not an organizer or an attendee. That means if you have shared calendars with your colleagues, any events not relating to you which we do not have consent to process are discarded.

    3. We do not store meetings data. To safeguard your most private data even more, as soon as we crunch your calendar events, we immediately delete all events data from our database and only keep relationship metadata (e.g. met for 2hrs in the last month) and scores (e.g. 7/10 strength).

    4. Relationship metadata is only visible to you. Insights on some connections such as “met 2 hours in the last 3 months” helps you contextualize future interactions, so we keep this data for you, but nobody else can see it.
